TRANSCRIPT
[00:00:00] Aubrey: Hi, friends. It's been a minute. I know. I know. I'm so sorry that I've been gone. Look, long story short, I am a people pleaser and it got the better of me for a minute. Kind of abandoned all the things for my own personal self, including this podcast, including this business and really invested deep into something that I really shouldn't have invested as deep into. And it's sort of like I needed the final hurrah to prove to myself that I need to stop doing that. So I'm going to probably touch on this more in future episodes. Don't you worry, you'll get all the tea. But for now, the point is I am a recovering people pleaser and I'm working on it. But, but also too, I want to acknowledge that I don't think I have been truly and
[00:01:00] Aubrey: authentically trusting the people around me and the community around me that I'm trying to build. I, for some reason chose to start something that like plays into every vulnerability that I have that plays into everything that makes me super self conscious. Like recording this takes 7,000x for me because I am such an overthinker and like, back to the people pleasing thing. But the point is that I just want to do a shout out to all the people who really encouraged me in these last few months to get over myself and get back at it because if it wasn't for you guys telling me that you see value in this, I honestly, I probably would have never come back because I'm really bad at prioritizing myself and trusting myself. And so, I honestly couldn't do this without you, the listener,
[00:02:00] Aubrey: and without those of you in my life. It is, appreciated with the highest respect. So anyway, I just wanted to say thanks because I really appreciate you guys. but with all that being said, I'm still having my, my moments of figuring this whole thing out and what it means and how it's going to be executed. And I ask for your grace your patience and your honest feedback; this is meant to be a two way road. I don't want to feel like I'm just talking at people. I really want to feel like I am providing a service and providing, you the listener with something that is helpful to you and what you need. So if you guys do need something, you can always head to the website, goldenapproachpodcast.com and send us a message. Because, again, this is really meant to be a community, project, so that's sort of what's been happening, and, this little teaser episode
[00:03:00] Aubrey: is really just to touch base and say, “hey, I is alive” and give you some insight as to what to expect going forward, now that I have resurfaced. So what to expect going forward. Okay, I want to really build out on what we've done. I am so proud of where this started considering I have no fucking idea what I'm doing, but now that, you know, the show has been out and I've been able to get some feedback from different people who've been listening, in the industry and out of the industry and also based on this experience that I just had, I've really done some reflection on how we can really hone in the vision of what is the Golden Approach. So, we've talked a little bit about how, you know, the Golden Approach is all about making sure that we're not just applying that
[00:04:00] Aubrey: traditional Golden Rule externally, but that we're also providing it internally, okay? Because we can't take care of others unless we take care of ourselves, right? They have to go hand in hand. But I want to go one step further. it's not just about taking the Golden Rule and treating it both ways because as I spend more time thinking about when we're taught the Golden Rule as kids, it's saying “treat others the way you want to be treated” or “the way you wish to be treated”, right? That's what we know. But I really, the more I listen to it, the more issues I have with it. I just dislike it more and more because it's so one sided. And honestly, that, to me, is really the root of our problem. Like, we have a lot of problems, and I'm not saying that, this show is magically gonna fix every single problem. That's
[00:05:00] Aubrey: ridiculous. However, we're so busy arguing about all these symptoms. But the root problem is that typically we don't have the emotional intelligence, not only about ourselves, but about each other, to handle and communicate emotion, um, and translate that emotion into something tangible, productive, meaningful, right? Like, we don't know how to fully process, our power as humans; we make all these movies about, the hero's story and, how love overcomes all, but, in reality, we don't know how to harness that power. So what I am hoping I can do is use two very particular skills that I have been taught in the world of hospitality
[00:06:00] Aubrey: that I think can actually help us as individuals, as peers, in our workplaces and as peers in our own communities to be able to better harness that power; and then that will help with all these other issues of divisiveness and lacking communication and emotional support and all these things that we're all craving and no one's giving each other. So. How do we do that? Emotional intelligence; was something that was brought up so much when I worked in hotels, but not in the beginning. This is a newer concept that I was not hearing about until like within the last five years. So people are out there talking about it, but not enough. And we've touched on this already; I really recommend going back and listening to Kieffer's episode. I think he's a perfect example of someone who just naturally works from a point of emotional intelligence. And that's not to say that's like word for word what we were talking about. We talked about so
[00:07:00] Aubrey: many other things, about food sovereignty and empathy in leadership, but he is able to be successful at those things because his foundation taught him strong emotional intelligence, and he carries that through into his management style. And I think that can be said, honestly, about everyone that has been on the show thus far, and I'm really proud of that. They all show it in very different ways, so It's not going to seem as obvious in some as in others, but go back and listen to them. And they're all in their own way, explaining their approach towards emotional intelligence and how they apply that to their workplaces, to their teams, in their leadership skills. The second important thing that we really need to hone in on, and we're all talking about this one, just calling it lots of different things is intentionality. Again, we've already talked about this on the show. So intentionality,
[00:08:00] Aubrey: is the combination of strategy and execution. To me at least, doing the thing with a lot of purpose behind it in a way that is going to bring an effective, positive result. For this, I would say go back to Zack Mill's episode. He talks a lot about intentionality and how he makes the choices he does. And I could say that about everyone we've interviewed. It's just sort of ebbing and flowing on a spectrum of what comes naturally to them, what are priorities to them. So as we move forward, we're going to hone in on these two skills. And yes, we are going to have a lot more hospitality professionals on this show than anything else because that's where I have connections, that's what's close to my heart. But at the same time, I really believe that these are skills that are applicable in any career choice. And in any lifestyle. So I really look forward to being able to
[00:09:00] Aubrey: expand out in different ways as the show grows to provide as many positive examples of these two things effectively working and helping people move forward. So if that speaks to you, I'm really hoping you're getting excited because I'm feeling more inspired and more focused on the vision than I have ever before. I'm just feeling really good about what we have going forward. So I plan on providing you with all this information, is obviously, I'm on the podcast right now. I'm going to stick with the bi weekly for now because I'm trying to work on, again, those people pleasing, overachieving kind of skills and be realistic in providing quality over quantity. Okay. So I really want to make sure that you feel like I'm not disappearing like I just did, but I also want to make sure that what I'm bringing you is as nice as it can be. So anyway, the point is,
[00:10:00] Aubrey: we are going to be relaunching this show on March 18th and we'll be proceeding bi weekly for the foreseeable future from there, okay? So that is exactly as it was before. If you haven't yet, you can just totally follow the show and then you don't have to worry about keeping track of this information anyway, and you can just totally tune this part out. So just hit Click. Follow and be done with it. And we can all hang out on the regular. Otherwise. we're going to be bringing in some new stuff , this is going to be a work in progress. We're going to be kind of testing the waters so don't be afraid to send us some feedback as we're figuring this out. We're going to have a newsletter, providing content for five categories Those are relationships, finance, community, sustainability, and health. These are all things that we all as humans like need to thrive and we want to help connect you to the resources that are out there. I'm assuming I am not alone based on the mood of everyone these
[00:11:00] Aubrey: days But like I is tired. It is exhausting to just dig, and dig, and dig, through all the noise and it just, it doesn't feel like anyone is actually trying to help me find the resources I need to make my life easier. Like, they very much make me feel like they want me to fail. I don't know. I don't mean to be a pessimist. I'm not a pessimist, but it just, it feels very heavy these days, I guess that's what I'm trying to say. And since I'm already doing the work of that digging to find quality things to make my life easier, I don't feel the need to gatekeep it and I might as well just put it out there. So the newsletter, is just going to be an opportunity to help you cut through the noise and hopefully find some things that are helpful in those categories. Again, we're going to be talking about relationships, finance, community, sustainability, and health. Okay. So for example, from a
[00:12:00] Aubrey: health and food standpoint; I put a lot of effort into making sure that the food I get is good for my community, good for the environment, good for my body, and I want to share this information. But hopefully it's not going to eventually be just from me. I really want this to be a community effort. So. As we're progressing, I really hope that as we put out questions about feedback, as we put out questions for suggestions on, articles that we're trying to put together we want you to respond. And so that's why I need you to be following on the Instagram. Oh my God, I just said the Instagram, how old am I? Oh my God. Okay. Anyway, the point is, @goldenapproachpod Follow there and you can just let us know if there's anything you want to hear more about. So, finally, if for some reason, no I'm working on my self talk, when you're interested in getting access to all the cool info that I want to share with you, all you
[00:13:00] Aubrey: have to do is make sure that you are on our email list. And yes, I feel a little I feel a little dirty being yet another person bugging into your email, but tis the world we live in. I didn't make the rules, I'm just living in them. So if you want the cool stuff, make sure I have your email, make sure you're following on social media, and that way we'll all stay in touch. All right. It has been a real treat being back here with you. Oh my God. I'm just like counting down the days to March 18th. And I'd be oh so grateful if you'd share us with friends or leave a review. Thank you doesn't cover it, but truly thank you. Um, well alright, talk to you in the very near future.
Buh bye!
